Gibson Guitars The Farm Park's 1998 Red Barn Summer Music Festival will bring a
variety of musical performers to the Decorah area

Guitar Tuner . The second annual festival, held in the Luther-owned historic
Ashmore Jewell Barn, is the result of combined efforts made by
Luther and the Decorah community.

Guitar Pro "I envisioned concerts there for a couple of reasons. One, the
area is such a gorgeous space and we are so lucky to have it. I
also thought it be fun to do over the summer, something of a
different nature than the Center Stage series that goes on during
the year," Kuhlman said.

encouraging tourism in the Decorah area while providing
entertainment and activity.
Electric Guitar To get the idea off the ground, Kuhlman spoke with then-interim
president David Roslien and Ann Highum, dean for student life. Once
the college approved the idea, Kuhlman approached the IAB and the
music festival was born.
Acoustic Guitar "The festival can really increase visibility for Decorah.
Decorah really has a lot to offer, more than even its own residents
believe. My ultimate goal when I pursued the idea was to make the
festival one in which both Luther and the Decorah community could
work together," said Kuhlman.
Teardrops On My Guitar This year's festival is a project of The Decorah Regional Arts
Council and is funded by the Iowa State Department of Cultural
Affairs and the City of Decorah Hotel/Motel Tax Fund. Luther
assists by providing the venue.
Guitar Strings "The venue is an historic place and people who may not go to
Luther events go here. The students and the community meet halfway
during a relaxed summer time. My goal is to provide as broad a
selection as possible," said Vivian Montgomery, professor of music
and Red Barn Music Festival director.

Guitar Chord The 1998 Red Barn Music Festival begins on Saturday, July 11 at
7:30 p.m. with the band Sotavento, from Madison, Wis. Sotavento
uses folk instruments to produce a musical style which combines
Latin American elements with an African and European sound.
Guitar Music Sunday, July 26, the Red Barn presents Peter Ostroushko and Dean
McGraw. Ostroushko offers his talents as a mandolinist and fiddler
of folk music. Ostroushko's Ukrainian groove is complemented by
McGraw's guitar playing. This show is a part of the Nordic Fest
Event, which begins at 3 p.m.
Online Guitar Tuner The Dugg Road Trio, a local swing group which combines the
sounds of mandolin, guitar and violin, will also be featured as
part of the Nordic Fest Event. The group's performance will start
at 3 p.m.
Classical Guitar The Percussion Group Cincinnati will perform Saturday, Aug. 8 at
7:30 p.m. The group uses drums, cymbals and bells to perform
traditional sounds from around the world. The concert is preceded
by an all-ages workshop, Made From Scratch, which starts at 3
p.m.
Guitar Notes Mini-operas of George Frideric Handel will be featured at the
Handel in the House: Ex Machina Antique Music Theater Company on
Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Singers Maria Jette and Bradley
Greenwald of the Twin Cities will be featured with Decorah
musicians Vivian Montgomery and Rebecca Lister. The acoustic
performance will be held indoors.
Gibson Les Paul The festival concludes Saturday, Sept. 5 with the Back of the
Barn Acoustic Music Fest. The fest begins at noon and ends at
midnight. Musicians Kat Eggleston, folk music; Joe Price, delta
blues; Brother's Keeper, harmony and guitar; and Footnotes of
Decorah, a Scandinavian/American dance band will be featured at the
fest.
Guitar Tuning "The Back of the Barn feature a lot of the same musicians, but
this year's should be a lot different although Joe Price and
Footnotes remain," said Montgomery.
Guitar Songs Tickets go on sale Monday, June 15 at the Oneota Community
Co-op. Prices for the outdoor performances are $6 per person and
$14 for a family unit of one adult and two children. Tickets for
indoor events are $10 for general admission and $8 for senior
citizens and students under 18 years of age.
Guitar Scales The Back of the Barn Acoustic Music Fest tickets are $9 for
general admission, $7 senior for citizens, $18 for a family unit,
$2 for kids ages five-12 and free for those under five and over
85.
