The Chenille Sisters, a Michigan-based vocal group, will appear at Luther along with the James Dapogny's Chicago Jazz Band on Saturday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life.
Cheryl Dawdy, Connie Huber, and Grace Morand, the three members of the Chenille Sisters, bring a three-part harmony to the swing style of the '30s and '40s. Their repertoire ranges from children's music to education, from comedy to original tunes.
The Chenille Sisters started in 1985 at the Old Town Theater in Ann Arbor, MI. Since then, they have released nine albums and produced two PBS specials, one of which won an Emmy in 1995.
The group also performs across the country in top halls, including Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion." They recently sold out a performance with the famous Boston Pops.
The eight-piece James Dapogny's Chicago Jazz Band will be accompanying the Chenille Sisters. This band has toured with Grammy-nominated blues singer Sippie Wallace, performed with Bonnie Raitt, and opened for Bob Newhart, Phyllis Diller, and Rich Little. Since 1976, the band has released eight albums.
The Chicago-based jazz band consists of founder James Dapogny on piano and trombone, cofounder Wayne Jones on drums, Kim Cusack on clarinet and saxophone, Russ Whitman saxophone and clarinet, Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet, Christopher Smith on trombone, Mike Karoub on bass, and Rod McDonald on guitar.
Tickets are on sale now in the CFL Box Office (x1357) for their September 18th show and are free with CAF, or $15 without.
